Safai Karamcharis call off strike, resume work

JAMMU, Aug 2: Safai Karamcharis of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) suspended their indefinite strike this afternoon after the assurance of the Mayor.
Rinku Gill, president, Civic Safai Karamchari Union (CSKU), told Excelsior this evening that he along with other representatives had a final round of the meeting with Mayor, JMC, Chander Mohan Gupta and they are satisfied over the agreement reached between them.
Gill said after some positive action like scrapping of outsourcing of wards and assurances on their other demands by the authorities, they called off the strike this afternoon and all the Safai Karamcharis, besides drivers and cleaners of JMC have resumed their routine work.
The whole Jammu city has turned into a garbage dump after Safai Karamcharis of JMC went on strike on July 29 demanding re-organization of the JMC, regularization of 33 contractual drivers and 200 Safai Karamcharis, filling vacant post of Safai Karamcharis and scrapping of outsourcing of wards, NGO system etc.
