Safai Karamchari Association holds protest, seeks action

KISHTWAR, July 10: Safai Karamchari Association held protest here today seeking action against the persons, who beat and abuse members of the association.
A large number of safai karamcharis assembled near bus stand here and held protest seeking action against the culprits for beating and abusing three safai karamcharis. Vice Chairman and some Councillors of Municipal Council Kishtwar also joined the protest. The protestors also blocked the highway in Kishtwar.
While talking to media persons, Vice President of Safai Karamchari Association Ghulam Rasool said that today their three safai karamcharis namely Mohammad Shafi, son of Ghulam Rasool of Gurain Ward Number 3, Mohammad Iqbal, son of Abdul Aziz and Wasim Iqbal, son of Mohammad Iqbal were performing their legitimate duties in their respective wards when Mohammad Shafi Saroori, son of Saydullah Saroori of Ward Number 13, Councillor Javed Ahmad of Palmar, at present Ward Number 12, Masood Ahmad of Palmar, at present Ward Number 12 and Councillor of Ward Number 11 Ghulam Mohammad appeared and started beating and abusing aforesaid safai-karamcharis.
“We were protesting peacefully against the incident near bus stand. SHO Police Station Kishtwar came on the spot along with his men and started beating our members and took them into custody”, he added.
“Executive Officer and Vice Chairman Municipal Council tried to intervene and enter into the premises of Police Station Kishtwar, but they were not given entry and security guards misbehaved with them”, he added.
He requested Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar to intervene and direct SHO Police Station Kishtwar to initiated action against the culprits under law. He also demanded release of illegally detained safai-karamcharis.
Meanwhile, Executive Officer Municipal Council Kishtwar also requested SHO Police Station Kishtwar to register FIR against Mohammad Shafi Saroori, son of Saydullah Saroori of Ward Number 11, Councillor Ghulam Mohammad Butt of Ward Number 11 and Junior Engineer Javed Iqbal for misbehaving and manhandling aforesaid safai-karamcharis.
After giving complaints to DC Kishtwar and SHO Police Station Kishtwar, the protesting safai-karamcharis dispersed.
Later, the traffic was restored on highway.
When contacted, SHO Kishtwar Inspector Abid Bukhari said that the protestors were dispersed as they blocked the highway. Action has been initiated for violating COVID protocols, he added.
