Sadhotra, Rana assure rehabilitation of Sadal sufferers on priority

UDHAMPUR, Sept 26: Expressing grief and shock over death and devastation caused by landslides in Sadal hamlet of Panjar village in Udhampur district, Minister for Planning and Development Ajay Sadhotra and Provincial President Devender Singh Rana on Friday said though no amount can compensate the loss of human life yet every effort will be made to rehabilitate the people and rebuild the infrastructure.
The two leaders, who visited the village along with senior district officers and party functionaries, personally conveyed their condolences to the bereaved families, saying the people of entire State shared their grief and agony.
The Planning Minister, during his interaction with the people, said most parts of the State underwent a phase of trauma due to unprecedented floods and landslides leaving life haywire. He referred to the damages and destruction caused in the Valley besides Poonch, Rajouri, Udhampur, Ramban, Reasi and the Jammu districts and said after massive evacuation, the focus had now shifted to rehabilitation and reconstruction.
Mr Sadhotra said the Government is pooling up all resources to achieve the targeted objectives aimed at providing respite to people ahead of ensuing winter months.
“This is a daunting task, given colossal damages due to floods across the state but we are steadfast in our resovle to meet the challenge”, Mr Sadhotra said and hoped that the people will extend their support in carrying out rehabilitation on war footing.
Mr Sadhotra gave an overview of relief measures undertaken across the state which are being personally monitored by the Chief Minister.
Talking to the people, Mr Devender Singh Rana emphasised the crucial need of rehabilitation in view of ensuing winter months, saying the Omar led Government is committed towards this. In this context, he referred to the plea made by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to the Centre for providing liberal assistance to overcome the challenge posed by unprecedented floods.
He said road connectivity, especially bridges and culverts, has been terribly affected across the state which would need top priority to reach out all the affected areas for reconstruction and rehabilitation. He hoped that the state will be adequately assisted to come out of the prevailing grim situation.
Mr Sadhotra and Mr Rana conducted extensive tour of the Panjar village in Panchari Block where Sadal hamlet has almost completely been hit by landslides leaving behind trail of tragedy and devastation.
The senior officers led by District Development Commissioner Yasha Mudgal briefed the Minister about the measures taken so far to provide respite to the affected people.
