JAMMU, Sept 16: National Conference (NC) additional general secretary and former Minister Ajay Kumar Sadhotra today urged non-governmental and philanthropic organizations to join hands with the Government in providing relief to families hit by torrential rains, flash floods and cloudbursts across Jammu and Kashmir.
Addressing a relief distribution camp at Janipur, organized by NC district president Chander Mohan Sharma, Sadhotra said such humanitarian gestures strengthen compassion and solidarity with victims in their hour of need. He noted that collective efforts can play a crucial role in mitigating the hardships of those who have suffered heavy losses due to natural calamities.
Sadhotra said the Omar Abdullah-led Government has been actively reaching out to the affected people with relief and assistance. However, he emphasized that Governmental measures alone cannot fully address the magnitude of the damage. “Governmental support, though substantial, always needs to be complemented by people’s participation. This is where NGOs, philanthropists and responsible citizens can share the responsibility of humanitarian service,” he said.
Expressing solidarity with those whose houses, crops and livelihoods were damaged, the former Minister said the widespread destruction requires the collective will of society. Appealing to the public to pool in resources for food, clothing, medicines and other essentials, Sadhotra expressed optimism that J&K, with its long tradition of communal harmony and mutual support, will overcome the present crisis through collective grit and compassion.
“NC is committed to serving the people and will stand shoulder to shoulder with them in rebuilding lives disrupted by the fury of floods,” he affirmed.
Prominent among those present on the occasion included Satwant Dogra (provincial president, women wing Jammu), Chander Mohan Sharma, Raghubir Singh Manhas, Randhir Singh Chib, Rakesh Kumar Sharma, Gurnam Singh, Ashwani Charak, Subash Bhagat, Dr Rajinder Sharma, Ved Prakash Sharma, Subash Choudhary, Raman Sharma, Aisha Bhan, Pinki Khalsa, Rita Gupta, Anju Bala, Shallu Sharma, Geeta Mehra and Sanjana Devi.
