All Sabha meeting held on eradication of social evils

JAMMU, Sept 15: A meeting of all Sabhas and Biradaris was held today here at Aggarwal Sabha regarding eradication of various types of social evils such as dowry system and cocktail parties.
The meeting was held under the chairmanship of president, Aggarwal Sabha, Jammu, Dewan Chand Aggarwal. This was the fifth consecutive meeting held to bring mass awareness and reach out a consensus among various Sabha members regarding eradication of social evils like dowry system, cocktail parties, use of non-veg in the marriage and other functions, large number of gatherings in marriage parties, bursting of crackers, drug abuse, etc.
The heads and representatives of various sabhas including Dogra Brahmin Sabha, DBPS, Dogra Khatri Sabha, Kashyap Rajput Sabha, Jammu Central Mahajan Sabha, OBC Mahasabha, Khajuria Biradari, Mahajan Sabha, Jatt Maha Sabha, and KRPs Jammu participated in the meeting, where they deliberated on prevalent social evils and put forward suggestions for their eradications.
The meeting expressed serious concern over heavy expenditure being incurred on marriages and other functions and it was felt by all that this needs to be curtailed to mitigate the sufferings of the poor, who are being crushed under social compulsions.
It was unanimously resolved in the meeting to immediately do away with the menace of dowry system, distribution of sweet packs with the invitation cards, cocktail parties and encouraging day-time marriages. It was also decided by the participants to approach the Government for strict implementation of Guest Control Act.
The meeting decided that the future course of action will be decided by a Coordination Committee of heads of all Sabhas. In addition, it was also decided that this awareness campaign should continue at individual Sabha or Biradari level.
