JAMMU, Feb 14: Two rusted grenades and a magazine of Indian Army of 1965 ordinance factory was recovered and later disposed off in Chak Malal area of Khour in tehsil Akhnoor.
As per police sources, a rice mill owner namely Jaipal Sharma, son of Gopal Dass of Chak Malal was levelling his land by a JCB and in the process an ammunition box containing two rusted grenades and a magazine were found.
After receiving information, SHO Police Station Khour SI Mohammad Iqbal Chagatta along with his team visited the spot and restricted the movement of people.
Colonel BPS Thakur and Lieutenant Colonel Mohit Sangwan of 15 Punjab alongwith bomb disposal expert Subedar Anup Singh from 10 DOU Akhnoor visited the spot and after inspecting the ammunition disposed off the grenades.
The ammunition was of Indian Army of 1965 ordinance factory and was unserviceable due to which it was disposed off to avoid any kind of loss of life and prosperity.
It is pertinent to mention that this area being border and battlefield on many occasions, the ammunition of this kind exists here and civilian used to report police as and when they found the ammunition.
The entire operation was conducted under the supervision of SDPO Akhnoor Gurvinderpal Singh, SP Rural Rajiv Pandey and SSP Jammu Uttam Chand.
