Russia a “loyal friend” to Iran, says Putin

MOSCOW, Mar 21 : Russian President Vladimir Putin on Saturday reaffirmed Moscow’s close ties with Iran, describing Russia as “a loyal friend and reliable partner” during a difficult period, in a message marking Nowruz, the Persian New Year.
In greetings conveyed through the Kremlin, Putin wished the Iranian people “strength to overcome these severe trials with dignity.” The message was addressed to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei and President Masoud Pezeshkian.
The Kremlin said congratulatory messages were sent to the Iranian leadership as part of the Nowruz celebrations, which mark the beginning of the Iranian New Year.
The statement comes amid heightened regional tensions and underscores the deepening strategic partnership between Moscow and Tehran.
Recent reports have indicated growing military and intelligence cooperation between the two countries. According to CNN, Russia has been assisting Iran with advanced drone tactics and sharing intelligence on the locations and movements of US military assets in the Middle East.
Some of this intelligence is said to include satellite imagery from Russia’s surveillance systems, marking an expansion in the level of cooperation.
Russia and Iran have strengthened ties in recent years, with Tehran supplying drones to Moscow during the Ukraine conflict, while Russia has extended support to Iran’s civilian nuclear programme.
Putin’s message is seen as a signal of continued political and strategic alignment between the two countries amid evolving geopolitical tensions.(UNI)
