Sir,
This has reference to the news item ‘Villagers risk their lives to cross nallah for daily routine’ DE May 8, 2018.
The news item clearly reveals the lack of basic amenities, and infrastructure in remote villages of the State. It is quite dismaying that our elected representatives do not pay much attention to build rural infrastructure. Despite availability of funds under constituency development fund (CDF), these representatives have no vision and plan to use these funds. It has been observed, most of the time, that these funds get lapse.
Besides, whenever any rural project is sanctioned under whichever scheme, it takes years to build the same. At times, these projects are abandoned midway either due to financial constraints or administrative apathy. As these developments remain away from media-electronic or print, there is nobody to raise these issues. The poor villagers also fail to pursue these projects as they do not have access to corridors of power. Even if they approach the authorities, they are not heard sympathetically.
There is thus urgent need to give a big push to rural infrastructure under MGNREGA, the scheme framed for the purpose.
Yours etc…
