Ruling NC-Congress alliance pushing State into stone age: PDP

Excelsior Correspondent
SRINAGAR, Oct 15: The main opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) today alleged that National Conference (NC)-Congress Coalition Government is leading the State into stone age as a result of its “insensitive attitude, incoherent policies and inefficient governance”.
Responding to the new load shedding schedule of Power Development Department (PDD), PDP chief spokesperson Naeem Akhtar said while the ruling NC had been hoodwinking the people on the promise of a return to 1953 position, it seemed the Government has already achieved a significant milestone by taking the State back to pre-2002 position.
‘Given the fuel crisis caused by the LPG non-availability and the schedule of darkness issued by PDD it seems ‘Stone Age’ is already here and the Government-led by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has revived the bitter memories of previous NC Government when Kashmir received one hour electric supply a day during winters,’ he said.
Mr Akhtar said while the entire Coalition Government is responsible for the crisis faced by the people, the power disaster can squarely be attributed to the Chief Minister who has been heading the department for the past four years.
The spokesman said for the present Government the consumer is the only culprit as the Chief Minister had been reportedly tweeting in the past.
Mr Akhtar said for the first time after 2002 election the people of the State, especially Kashmir valley, had experienced some disciplined and systematic supply of power which had immense impact on the routine of people.
The consumers applied for metering in the hope of getting uninterrupted power supply and to a large extent cooperated in making only genuine use of electricity and paying the tariff on time.
This rythm in the revolutionary change was broken by the selfish and thoughtless slogan of NC during the elections asking the people to break meters and use heaters and promising free LPG.
With the on set of winter, the problem is getting more acute and the State Government instead of worrying about the plight o the people is busy on working it life lines in Delhi to shore up its discredited condition, Mr Akhtar said.
