JAMMU, Jan 17: The Jammu & Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages (JKAACL) organized literary programme ‘Ru-Ba-Ru’ today at K L Saigal Hall, Writers’ Club, Jammu, based on the life and literary work of Ajit Singh Mastana, a well known writer and Ghazal writer of Jammu & Kashmir.
Jaipal Singh, Deputy Commissioner (Retd.); Harvinder Kour, Secretary JKAACL; Dr Arvinder Singh Amn, former Additional Secretary, JKAACL; Dr Baljit Singh Raina, president Punjabi Lekhak Sabha, Jammu; Ajit Singh Mastana and Popinder Singh Paras, Editor Sheeraza Punjabi, JKAACL were present in the presidium. Galaxy of Punjabi speaking people and writers fraternity were present in the programme.
Secretary, JKAACL extended formal welcome to the guests and the audience. She said that Academy has been organizing various literary programmes at various places in J&K. She appreciated the programmes conducted in the Punjabi section under Popinder Singh, Editor Sheeraza Punjabi, JKAACL. She appreciated the participation of the youth in the programme.
Two poetry collections written/compiled by Mastana were also released on this occasion. Two research papers on the released books, life & literary contribution of Ajit Singh Mastana were presented by R S Rajan, and Rattan Singh Kanwal. Popinder Singh Paras, while conducting the proceedings of the event, also highlighted the contribution of Mastana.
In his address, Jaipal Singh said that there is a great need of taking initiatives to make the Punjabi accessible in all spheres so that there is a scope of spreading the mother tongue. Rajinder Singh Raina, former Jt. Director Doordarshan; Dr Baljit Singh Raina; and Dr Arvinder Singh Amn also expressed their views on the contribution of AS Mastana. Amn emphasized on the need of involving the new generation in associating with the mother tongue.
Mastana shared his experiences of life and literary journey, with the well known intellectuals. He informed that he was influenced by the training & teachings of his mother, teachers and religious teachers.
A S Mastana has contributed five books of Punjabi poetry. He was awarded with Best Book Award by J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages during 1997 for his Punjabi poetry collection, titled ‘Kesar Chhitaan’.Two poetry collections of A S Mastana being released during literary program in Jammu.
