JAMMU, Dec 23: Advocate Nitin Bakhshi, president of Young Lawyers Association (YLA), J&K High Court, Jammu has appealed the Lt Governor of J&K UT to strengthen RTI Act in J&K.
“RTI applications are not receiving timely replies and in some cases, no reply is being received by applicants in J&K, which is a grave concern in itself,” Advocate Nitin Bakshi said in a press statement and urged the LG to take a strict action in this regard as he alleged that in some cases, applicants are receiving threats and facing harassment by administrative officers which is not bearable at any cost.
Bakshi said that RTI is an effective tool to check and cure corruption and it needs to be strengthened manifolds. Sharing his personal experience, Advocate Bakshi said recently he had filed an application under RTI Act with the public information officer of the office of DC Samba but he has not received the reply yet as the stipulated time has also gone.
He regretted that when he approached DC Samba telephonically on the issue, instead of listening to his grievance, the DC Samba misbehaved with him. Bakhshi said he reported the same to higher officials of UT of J&K but everyone is paying a deaf ear to his grievances.
