JAMMU, Dec 1: Civil Society members from Jammu including RTI activists and lawyers from Jammu have slammed all those political parties and leaders who are opposing State Administrative Council’s decision of bringing transparency and accountability in the functioning of Jammu and Kashmir Bank.
In a joint statement, the civil society member said SAC headed by Governor Satypal Malik’s decision of November 22, where the SAC has declared Jammu and Kashmir Bank as a PSU and bring it under RTI Act is a welcome step, as major share of the bank i.e. about 60 percents are owned by the State Government hence it was fit case to be declared as a PSU and brought under RTI Act.
They alleged that deliberately the attempts are made to mislead the innocent people about J&K Bank that financial and administrative of the bank would be compromised if it is brought under RTI and declared as PSU.
They also condemned the protest demonstrations by some vested interests who are asking for revocation of SAC’s decision with regard to J&K Bank. The civil society members also congratulated the Governor Satyapal Malik, his four Advisors and Chief Secretary for this bold and pro- transparency decision.
