RSS- In service of nation

Nation gives us everything.
We shall also learn to give something.
Whenever there has been a natural calamity, disaster or an emergency-like situation, the Swayamsevaks(volunteers) of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh have always been on the forefront to serve the society and nation. RSS has been carrying forward this tradition since its inception. As India fights Coronavirus, RSS is playing a meaningful role in combating the fight against it.
In Jammu and Kashmir, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh has stepped up its assistance to the marginalised sections of the society to fight Covid_19 and directed its volunteers to form local level plans, distribute food packets, masks and other essential commodities to the needy families. Maintaining social distance, the volunteers are providing the needed assistance and communicating a firm message to the people that they are not alone in this tough time. The volunteers have also extended full support to the authorities amid complete lockdown in the UT.
The organisation top brass is closely monitoring the upheavals caused due to the outbreak of Coronavirus and the pandemic situation caused aftermath. The Swayamsevaks and dozens of its associate organisations/ affiliates have been directed to prioritize the fight against Coronavirus. Helpline numbers to address the problems of people have been announced in all districts.
Sewa Bharti is focussing on the distribution of food among the marginalised section in order to reduce the pressure caused due to pandemic situation. One of the key priorities of the organization is to utilise its network for fostering awareness, social distancing and other measures to check the spread of the virus. Sewa Bharti runs more than 1 Lakh projects in the country, widely for the lower strata of society which includes educational, medical and other various welfare works.
RSS believes in service irrespective of caste, creed, region and religion with the pledge to serve mankind. RSS volunteers extended their relief work to various districts of Kashmir. Impressed with the welfare works and devotional gesture of RSS, Khalida Begum, 87, a Muslim woman from Jammu and Kashmir donated 5 Lakh from her saving meant for Haj pilgrimage to Sewa Bharti.
In Jammu, volunteers communicated and distributed essential commodities such as rice, atta, pulses, edible oil, etc. in Puran Nagar, Pacca Talab Basti, Mana Basti Sarwal, Hari Singh Basti near High Court, Marath Basti, Trikuta Nagar, Rajasthan Basti, Raghunathpura Basti, Nagrota Bypass and other slum areas. Along with relief works, awareness through digital networking and social media platforms was also spread. Social distancing and other measures to fight coronavirus were also highlighted through all possible means. In RS Pura, Ramban, Billawar, Kathua, Kishtwar, Reasi, etc. the relief work was conducted with complete energy and enthusiasm. Swayamsevaks carried sanitation work in the remote areas and various villages to ensure a healthy environment amid Coronavirus scare.
Sangh volunteers in the border district of Rajouri-Poonch carried forward the mission to serve humankind with the essence to ensure food for all in the wake of complete lockdown. Door to door collection of essential commodities was also initiated to involve every section of society in the distinguished cause of feeding the poor. Tea and Snacks were also served to security personnel communicating the thought that everyone stands united with them in this pandemic dilemma. In various villages of Rajouri-Poonch, sanitation work was also carried by the volunteers and a kit including essentials comprising rice, oil, sugar, salt, cereals, soap etc. was distributed.
Serving the motherland from the frontline in times of emergency has been an integral part of RSS’s ideology. Impressed with the services of Sangh volunteers at the borders during the war with China in 1962, Sangh volunteers were invited to be part of the 1963 Republic Day parade by Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru to honour the spirit of nationalism exhibited by them.
Taking the same tradition ahead, Sangh volunteers have swung into action considering the gravity of coronavirus and lockdown consequences. In the different parts of the country, volunteers have come out in solidarity with frontline fighters against Coronavirus- doctors, police, sanitation workers, etc. Various units of Sewa Bharti are making homemade face masks and distributing them among the people. In Delhi alone, Sewa Bharti is feeding more than 80,000 people daily. The volunteers are religiously working to assist students studying in Delhi hailing from different states in universities like DU, JNU, Jamia etc. YUVA- Youth United for Vision and Action has issued a helpline number to exclusively help students in the light of lockdown crisis. YUVA is actively working in all universities of Delhi and is using its energetic and young network to address the problems of students.
With the aim that no one sleeps hungry in the country, Sangh and its affiliates are taking the lead from Kashmir to Kanyakumari. The stories of volunteer services coming across from the nation are inspiring and stimulating everyone to contribute in the fight against Covid19. The collective efforts and commitments will positively arise the country from the darkness shed by the pandemic.
