RS bids farewell to retiring members

NEW DELHI : The Rajya Sabha on Wednesday bid farewell to 11 members from UP and Uttarakhand, who are set to retire in November.
Soon after laying of papers, Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu said, ”the House is bidding farewell to some members from UP and Uttarakhand today, as they are set to retire in November. They include Chattrapal Singh Yadav, Ravi Prakash Verma, Raja Ram, Vir Singh, P L Punia, Ram Gopal Yadav, Hardeep Puri, Neeraj Shekhar, Arun Singh, Raj Babbar and Javed Ali.”
Bidding farewell to the members, the Chairman said, ”While retirement marks end of term of the members, it imbibes in them a sense of fulfillment and contentment of having served people of this country, a feeling they will cherish all their life.
The members will be leaving this August house with loads of invaluable experiences and memories which will continue to guide them in their path of public service. ”
He said that the retiring members have contributed significantly to the deliberations of the House and Parliamentary committees which they represented.
”I place on record my appreciation and that if the House on the valuable service rendered by them with utmost dedication to further the cause of Democracy.
”Though some members may be re-elected, I hope, this House will miss those who will not be coming back immediately,” the Chairman said.
He expressed hope that the embers would continue to serve the people if the country with the same vigor and spirit if service.
Speaking on the occasion, retiring member Neeraj Shekhar, the son of former PM Chandra Shekhar, said he used to play in the Central Hall when visiting the Parliament as a child with his father. (AGENCIES)
