SRINAGAR July 5: In a major relief to the SSA teachers who are without salaries for last 5 months, Government is releasing their salary later this week after Centre released Rs 520 crore for them.
Minister for Education Naeem Akhtar told Excelsior that the Centre ordered the release of 520 crore for salary of SSA teachers. The State Government has already deposited its share of Rs 30 crore with the Ujala for the financial year 2016-17. He said that the Centre is giving 90 percent funds while State has to pay its 10 percent share for the scheme. Earlier, the centre had released Rs 311 crore.
“But I am sorry that the salary could not be released before Eid. I assure the teachers that their salary will be released on the first working day after Eid,” Akhtar said.
The Minister said: “I spoke to Secretary HRD Ministry Mr. Kunthia and requested him to release the funds for the salary of the teachers.”
The Minister said that the release of salary from GoI got delayed due to delayed budget in the State.
Akhtar said that as the scheme has been streamlined, the SSA teachers will get their salary on time now. He said that earlier the State Government was not depositing its share and was diverting the Central assistance for the scheme for other purposes.
