Rs 5 lakh to NOKs of Kishtwar violence victims

 

SRINAGAR: The State Government has paid Rs 5 lakhs as ex-gratia relief to the next of kin (NoK) of those who lost their lives in the Kishtwar violence.

Minister for Planning and Development Ajay Kumar Sadhotra today informed the Legislative Council that an ex-gratia relief of Rs 5 lakh has been paid to the next of kin of thos who lost their precious lives in the Kishtwar violence.

He said an unfortunate incident took place in district Kishtwar on August 9, resulting in loss of two precious lives besides damage to the property.

Subsequently, during the intervening nights of August 10 and 11, one more person lost his life in the Paddar area of the district.

Replying to a Calling Attention Notice of Naresh Kumar Gupta the Minister said the State administration took all measures to contain the situation including imposition of curfew, deployment of Army to assist Civil Administration so as to control law and order situation and to ensure that no further loss of life and damage to property is caused.

Mr Sadhotra said the State administration also engaged prominent citizens of district Kishtwar in particular and Jammu division in general in dialogue for seeking their cooperation in restoring the normalcy.

A Group of Ministers camped at Kishtwar to monitor the situation and to address the concerns of different communities. With such timely efforts of the Government and active Cooperation of the people, normalcy was restored in District Kishtwar.

The Minister said on August 25, a Commission of Enquiry headed by a retired Judge of the High Court has been set up to enquire into the incident. (AGENCIES)
