JAMMU, Feb 18: MJR-47, Movement for Justice for Refugees of 1947 from PoJK, strongly condemn and opposed the recent order of the Govt of India following recommendations by State Govt sanctioning an amount of Rs 5.5 lakh per DP family of 1947 from PoJK as “reasonable amount” for rehabilitation over-ruling the recommendations of Rs 30 lakhs interim relief by JPC on Home Affairs and Rs 25 lakhs recommended by State Govt way back in October 2014.
The order further states that already “in the past rehabilitation packages have been given in a variety of ways”. The irony is that the only relief measures of ex-gratia of Rs 3500 was given to DP’s which was also taken back by State Govt in the pretext of cost of agriculture land housing plot and financial aid (loan) given to the DP’s of 1947. Many of the DP’s had to pay from their pocket the extra cost levied on the so called allotted plots/ quarters.
It is irony that among all categories of DP’s including those from Chhamb of 1965-71 and even migrants from valley from 1989-90, PoJK 1947 DP’s is a class who is the most aggrieved has faced maximum sufferings, causalities of more than 45,000 human lives, massacred in the tribal raid in J&K State has been totally ignored and discriminated for any relief and resettlement for the last 70 years.
This is not the case with other DP’s of Chhamb of 1965-71 / valley migrants. No cost of land or plots allotted to the Chhamb DP’s had been deducted from ex-gratia of Rs 8000 and Rs 12,500 aid for construction of houses were paid to each family. For Valley migrants Govt is always very generous to give package after package. At present, they are paid monthly cash dole Rs 10,000/family, on this count every migrant family has been paid more than Rs 15 lakhs till date in monthly cash. It is a cruel joke and grave injustice with the DP’s of 1947 from PoJK reducing the relief amount of Rs 30 lakhs per family to Rs 5.5 lakhs.
