Rs 15 cr earmarked for up-gradation of Channi Himmat nallahs: Bhalla

JAMMU, Mar 5: Minister for Housing, Horticulture and Culture Raman Bhalla today said that the Government has earmarked Rs. 15 crore for upgradation of local nallahs in Channi Himmat, Channi Kamala and Channi Bija areas, adding that directions have been issued to Economic Reconstruction Agency (ERA) to   start the works at the earliest.
The Minister was addressing a large gathering after laying foundation stone of Rs. 16 lakh development works at Channi Kamala, here today.
Managing Director Housing Board Kiran Wattal, Executive Engineers of R&B, PHE and Housing Board accompanied the Minister.
Mr. Bhalla informed the residents that Government has earmarked Rs. 15 lakh for upgradation of lanes and drains in the locality, adding that work on the project is under progress and would be completed within prescribed time frame.
The Minister called upon the people not to put debris into nallahs, adding that such practices chock the nallah leading to overflowing of dirty water into streets and creating problems for locals and passerby. He said that the Government was endeavouring hard to develop all the areas of the state with modern and need based infrastructural facilities, adding that in this regard all the departments are working in a more organized manner.
To meet the drinking water requirement in Channi Kamala area, Mr. Bhalla said Government has prepared a detailed project report involving Rs. 3 crore for digging a deep drill tube well and laying of water supply pipes in the uncovered areas of the locality. He said the project would be started immediately after completing the tendering formalities.
For improving the power scenario in the Channi Himmat and its adjoining areas, the Minister said Government has also augmented 6.3 MVA receiving station of Transport Nagar to 10 MVA so that people do not face any inconvenience during summer season. He asked the locals to use electricity judiciously during peak hours and legalize their power connections to save power for themselves.
Responding to the demands of the locals, the Minister asked the Managing Director Housing Board to prepare estimates for construction of toilet complex on the available site and submit the same for funding so that the facility could be provided to the inhabitants at the earliest.
Regarding installation of street lights and benches in stadium and recreational parks developed by Housing Board in the Channi Kamala, Mr. Bhalla asked the Housing Board to install the same at all these places for the convenience of general masses out of board funding.
The Minister said people’s cooperation was imperative to make Jammu and Kashmir a prosperous state. He called upon the people not to pay heed to the nefarious designs of those who mislead people by false slogans to meet their personal interests. He asked the people to extend their whole hearted cooperation to the Government for maintaining peace in the State.
