JAMMU, Mar 6: Women are leaders everywhere you look, from the CEO of a fortune company to the housewife, who raises her children, said Jaideep Bhatnagar, Additional Director General, Press Information Bureau and Regional Outreach Bureau, J&K.
He said this while inaugurating a round table talk on ‘Education and Empowerment of Women’ at Indian Institute of Management, Jammu. The round table talk was organized by Press Information Bureau, Regional Outreach Bureau, J&K, in collaboration with IIM Jammu as part of an initiative of the Government to celebrate International Women’s Day, 2020 through a series of countrywide programmes.
Panelists from diverse fields joined in for serious deliberations on the theme ‘Education and Empowerment of Women’. The panelists included Dr Kavita Suri, Director and Head, Department of Lifelong Learning, Jammu University; Dr Vandana Sharma, Head, Department of English, Central University Jammu; Choudhary Mohammad Yaseen, District Development Commissioner Shopian; Savita Sirohi, Ex Squadron Leader, IAF; Bhat Iqbal Majeed, Assistant Professor, Social Work, Central University Jammu; Insh AIdrees, Law Scholar, JU and Aarti Mahajan, acclaimed fitness expert and entrepreneur.
The Deputy Director, ROB and PIB moderated the session and instilled thought-provoking ideas and queries among the panelists and audience.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Vandana Sharma said that the time has come to bridge the literacy gap in India and there is an urgent need of gender equality in all spheres of life.
Choudhary Mohammad Yaseen also discussed the constitutional aspect of the empowerment of women and centrally sponsored schemes and programmes that revolutionized the ground realities. He further said that the time has come when all the disparities should be removed.
Dr Kavita Suri underlined the importance of Women’s day and the role of cinema in bringing about a change in the society. Bhat Iqbal Majeed said that the inhibitions must be removed and all the taboos should go.
Director IIM Jammu, B S Sahai said that women can do wonders in every sphere of life and it is very encouraging that women are heading the topmost financial institutions in India and abroad.
Aarti Mahajan talked about importance of fitness among women. Insh AIdrees spoke about the constitutional and legal aspect of the empowerment of women.
