Rotary Club Jammu conducts organ donation awareness campaign

JAMMU, Mar 5: Rotary Club of Jammu in collaboration with Rotary Club of Organ Donation today organized an organ donation awareness campaign at MAM College, Jammu.
Anil Srivatsa, Charter president of RC Organ Donation was the guest speaker who briefed about the basis of organ donation. He explained the critical condition of requirement of organs across India. He revealed that in India people are not educated enough about organ and tissue donation and hence, they are not coming forward for this noble cause.
One more misconception, he discussed, was related to the difference between body donation and organ donation. Body donation is used for education of medical students and organ donation helps other to live a better life. He also tried to link the emotions of donors and the family through various live examples.
Prof (Dr) G S Rakwal, Principal MAM College and chief guest urged the NSS Wing to carry out the cause to other parts through various activities. Dr Namita Singh and Dr Koushal Kiran Thakur (NSS Officer) presided over the function.
Dr Gaurav Vaid, president of the Club, said that organ donation is one of the focused areas of Rotary. Dr Vaid shared that he has signed an MoU with the Rotary Club of Organ Donation so that more and more activities can be done in the future at various levels.
He informed that Rotary Club of Jammu is already running a project “Gift of Sight” in which 40 people are benefitted by cornea transplant. Sunil Kumar Sawhney is the Project Director of the Project.
Post session many students and the faculty members enquired about the legalities related to organ donation and the possible way of doing so. Rotarians S K Sawhney, Dr Navneet Gupta, Deepak Baboo, Prem Shankar, Harbans Singh and Sat Pal Verma were also the part of the campaign.
