The much talked of the scheme of land distribution among the concerned identified persons is being violated with impunity. Questions about the loopholes of this scheme were on many occasions raised in the state Assembly but it seems that the government appears to feel helpless and ineffective in dealing against the elements called the land mafia. It is reported that even on date as much as nearly 20 lac kanals of land continues to be occupied illegally by the land mafia.
This scheme, therefore has lost its purpose and meaning but has turned the fortunes into sky high proportions of the mafia. Does the scheme need a review as nearly 13 years ago when the scheme was started , a huge revenue amounting to nearly Rs. 25ooo crores were estimated to be earned by the state to be spent for the welfare measures of the public. The Government must publish the names of the encroachers and land grabbers to be followed by legal eviction with penalty. Hope the government makes the matter its priority.
