HELSINKI, May 26: A gunman opened fire from a rooftop in a Finnish town centre in the early hours today, killing an 18-year-old woman and wounding eight other people, police said.
An 18-year-old man has been detained after the shooting outside bars and restaurants in Hyvinkaa just before 0430 hrs IST. Police said the suspect was believed to have used two rifles.
Two of the wounded are in critical condition and one of them is a policewoman.
Hyvinkaa is 56 kilometres north of the capital, Helsinki.
