Sir,
This has reference to the news item ‘SC restrains Italian ambassador from leaving India’ DE March 15.
Tough action against Italy for its breach of trust over the issue of two marines involved in killing of two fishermen is a necessity.
In case it does not happen, it will be assumed that India is spineless State and any sort of insult can be heaped upon it.
The Government of India has already warned that in case the two marines did not return, it will have serious implications on bilateral relations between the two countries.
The Government of Italy should reconsider its decision and honour its commitment to send back the two marines to face trial. Otherwise, the case in questions will have international ramifications as well. The old adage ‘once bitten twice shy’ will gain more currency. Each country will think twice in such matters in the future. A bad precedent set by Italy.
Yours etc….
