Is there any relationship between the politics and the students? Whether the students should be kept away from politics or they should be allowed to take an active part in politics. Students are the backbone of the society and if they are not brought up properly, the future of the society will be darkened. Orthodox people cite old examples to prove that the student’s life was the life of hardships and struggle. Students have nothing to do with the politics of the country and they have to devote their full attention to their physical, mental, intellectual and spiritual growth. Their studies and the method of education in that age went ahead in helping them to grow properly as an asset to the society. Such people are also mistaken.
In present situation our country is waiting for young and honest leaders to rule them. We need a break from the corrupt politicians who make our country famous as a still developing country. We want to see our country as a well developed country. We all are fed up with the scams unearthing every day. Our country has become a country of corruption. Every commodity whether its Diesel, Petrol, LPG or common house hold items has become expensive many folds. So we want young leaders who will not get corrupt and use technology to develop a newer and better country. Let us make our nation educated. Most of the leaders today are too rich enough to understand the common people’s problems. And so I believe it is a young and educated leader who can understand and change our society for a better tomorrow.
Modern critics are of opinion that students should be kept away from politics. The students are also a part of our society that is our body. Any organ of the body which is undeveloped makes the body cripple. Thus we can assume that for the betterment of the society, of the welfare of the student community, for the prosperity of the nation and for every lasting peace in the universe, the students should be allowed to have their say in all matters, which concern them.
There is also the dark side of it that is being witnessed these days. In the garb of politics, students take to destructive means. They ignore their studies and they think that copying is their right. Attendance should not be a condition for taking an examination.
The indiscipline and unrest among the students prove that the modern politics has totally failed to tackle their problems. The students should not be allowed to take active part in politics. I may be excused if I assert that the fault does not lie with the students who are as delicate as the new branch of a new plant; the fault lies with the politicians who try to use the young blood for the welfare of their own party purposes.
Party politics and politics are two separate things. As far as the former is concerned, the politicians should understand that to meet their selfish ends, they should not misuse the young blood. They should remember that the coming generation would never pardon them. The students should be allowed to take an active part in the politics and in all those matters which are concerned with their present and future. They should not follow the slogans of the so-called politicians who proclaim themselves to be their friends, well-wishers and their saviours. The suffering of a student from political enthusiasm makes him liable to exploitation by selfish politicians. Thus guardians have enough reason to remark that it is meaningless to waste time in dirty politics. The politicians use the students as a tool by compelling them to take part in a movement. The student community is pressurized to take part in antisocial and antinational activities. When students become tools in the hands of political leaders they spoil their valuable career. The student power is utilised for fulfilment of their goal that is to hold power and accumulate wealth by fair or foul means. If the activities of students are not for the national good it is better not to join politics at all. While joining politics students should utilise their conscience.
Though we apprehend that study is the only choice, for students, the view is not altogether errorless. We get frightened if they get diverted to politics. Students are always eager to participate in games, sports, eager to view cinemas and theatres apart from taking interest in studies. Human being develops a tendency to know about the society in which he lives and the environment as well.
The education of a student seems to be incomplete or imperfect without an interest in him to know the political development in the country vis-à-vis that of other countries. Political activities and affairs are so much intermixed within him that he cannot keep himself away from those. When we analyse the history of the struggle of India for freedom we come across example of students participating the freedom movement forsaking their studies. When the question of fighting for the freedom and honour of one’s motherland grips a student’s mind, he is enthused to join it. Politics is good so far it is employed for removing injustice, removing hunger from the land by feeding to the hunger stricken millions and for freeing the country from a foreign rule.
Though a student is likely to devote himself to the pursuit of knowledge he should take extra academic interest. We cannot dissuade them from politics. The simple reason is one cannot check the political enthusiasm of a student by force. The primary task of a student is to devote himself to the study of books where as joining politics comes next. If the designs of notorious politicians seem to be antisocial or antinational, students should refuse to join them. The benefit of common man should be their aim and they should take only the constructive work into consideration. When we talk of the participation of students in agitations and fighting’s related to common man issues, I would say students should participate in them but not in a violent way. We have seen many students losing their lives foolishly by burning themselves, committing suicide etc… Is all this correct? Why don’t we think about the future? When we are fighting for something with real passion, why do we want to die before enjoying what we are fighting for? Why kill ourselves? Are we not literate enough, can’t we think of better ways to solve our problems? I think killing oneself for any reason would be the most foolish and coward thing in the world.
By burning buses, public property we are doing nothing but causing harm to ourselves. Why don’t we understand that it is we who are going to live tomorrow, so why should we kill ourselves when we can’t enjoy the tomorrow for which we are fighting today… Let us live and still fight for it. Many a time I have seen students going for signature campaign against some injustice and sending them to our nation’s leaders like the President etc. that’s seems great. Let us try to achieve it through non-violence. Let us strive for our happiness and peace but in the process let us not harm each other.
