JAMMU, Dec 30: Commissioner/ Secretary, Department of Higher Education, J&K, Talat Parvez Rohella today released a book entitled ‘Animal Physiology and Biochemistry’ , authored by Dr Pragya Khanna, Principal, Govt Degree College, Chenani and Dr Parvinder Kumar, Asst Prof Deptt of Zoology, University of Jammu.
The book has been published by the Narendra Publishing House, New Delhi. Director Colleges, Govt of J&K, Prof M Y Peerzada, Nodal Principal, Kashmir Division, Prof Yasmeen Ashai and Nodal Principal, Jammu division, Prof Ravinder Tickoo were also present on the occasion.
The Commissioner/ Secretary congratulated the authors and said that a responsible teacher must always find ways to advance his/her subject pedagogically while responding to the legitimate concerns of the students. For a student to be educated in a discipline, an awareness of disciplinary communication is necessary and it is incumbent upon the teachers to find ways to connect with the students both in terms of breadth and depth of material and with regard to their ability to be critical consumers of scientific information.
Director Colleges, Prof Peerzada also commended the efforts of the authors and said that the discipline of Physiology is an ever evolving one and requires constant updating and thorough research.
While speaking about the book, a 924 page volume, Dr Pragya emphasized that the book though comprehensive offers a thorough, easy to understand introduction to the fundamental principles of Animal Physiology. It uses a comparative approach with a wide range of examples from across the animal kingdom. The purpose of the book is to explain the concepts in a consistent structured format, highlighting the core concepts and using simple correlations along with a multitude of illustrations, diagrams and photographs throughout in order to clarify important facts. This book will benefit all students taking courses in B Sc, B Sc Hons and Post-graduate courses in Zoology, Veterinary Science, Biochemistry, Animal Physiology and other related fields. Above all every chapter contains appropriate tools for self-assessment for various competitive examinations.
She presented the copies of the book to all the dignitaries on the occasion.
