Road square named after Mahendra Kapoor unveiled

MUMBAI: Veteran actor, Jeetendra Kapoor on Thursday unveiled a road square here, named named after the legendary National Award winning playback singer Mahendra Kapoor.
The ‘Padmashri Mahendra Kapoor Chowk’ is located at the junction of St. Martin’s Road and turner road at Bandra West in Mumbai suburb.

As the late singer was synonymous with many patriotic numbers, instead of long speeches, the dignitaries celebrated the inaugural by singing his immortal songs, ‘Mere Deshki Dharti’ from the film ‘Upkar’ (1967).

Kapoor’s widow, Praveen Mahendra Kapoor their singer son Ruhan and wife Neerja, and their son Sidhant, besides Suresh Wadkar, Johny Lever, Udit Narayan, Madhushree, Anil Deshmukh and others clapped and cheered as Jeetendra unveiled the plaque bearing the new name for the square.

The late Mahendra Kapoor, who made his indelible mark in singing during the golden age of Bollywood music, passed away in 2008.
