JAMMU, Sept 8: Rich tributes were paid to Sher -e – Kashmir late Sheikh Mohd. Abdullah on his 30th death anniversary here, which was addressed by the Ministers, senior National Conference leaders , legislators and Ex- Legislators.
Early in the morning Quarn- Khawani was performed in the Provincial office and fruit and other eatables were distributed among the needy at Vridh Ashram Amphalla Jammu.
While addressing the gathering Rattan Lal Gupta, president J&K National Conference Jammu Province, paid rich tributes and said that Sher-e-Kashmir was a towering personality internationally recognized for his contribution to secular and democratic values. He fought a long war for the rights of the people in the state and worked shoulder to shoulder with National leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Abdul Kalam Azad and Raj Gopal Archarya.
He was a visionary leader and had rejected two Nation theory during the partition of India and opted for secular India during 1947.
The J&K State started a new ERA of development when he took over in 1975 .The real tribute to him would be to follow the path which he adopted during his life time. He is still a guiding force for the people of the state, he added.
Surjeet Singh Slathia, Minister for Industry and Commerce, in his tributes said that National Conference is a secular party founded by Sher – e- Kashmir. The party was orgainsed to accommodate all section of society in the State to fight against backwardness and social evils from the State. He further said that the State is heading towards a developmental phase under the dynamic leadership of young Chief Minister Jenab Omar Abdullah.
Abdul Gani Malik, Minister for Higher Education and Labour Employment, also paid rich tributes to the great leader and highlighted the achievements of the Coalition Government in the State.
Thakur Rashpal Singh MLA, Vice – Chairman Kissan Advisory Board in his tributes highlighted the achievements of the Kissan Advosry Board and said that J&K is the only State where Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has constituted a Kissan Advisory Board which is a historical decision.
Ajay Sadhotra, MLC, said that Sher -e- Kashmir was a historical personality who worked for the welfare of the State during his life time. President late Neelam Sanjeeva Redey has said that Sher -e – Kashmir is not only “Sher of Kashmir he is Sher -e – Bharat”.
