JAMMU, Oct 28: Rich tributes were paid today to Brigadier Rajinder Singh on his 72nd Martyrdom Day.
In a function organized at village Rajinder Singh Pura in Samba district, Former Minister and National Conference (NC) State secretary, Surjeet Singh Slathia today paid glowing tributes to Brig Rajinder Singh.
“Brig Rajinder Singh is an inspiration for the generations to come”, Slathia said while addressing people. He seized the opportunity to highlight the plight of the border dwellers living under the shadow of fear due to intermittent and unprovoked shelling from across the border.
He sought all necessary measures in instilling sense of security among the border residents in J&K and also sought immediate completion of safe shelters and bunkers planned years ago for the safety of the residents.
Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir Ex-Services League (JKESL) organized a function at Rajinder Chowk Park behind Central Secretariat. The event drew crowds both from ESM fraternity and general public who paid floral tributes to the reverenced martyr.
The function started with Saraswati Vandana presented by the students of Fauji Public School who were clad in colourful attires. Maj Gen Sharad Kapoor, General Officer Commanding, Tiger Division was the chief guest while Sanjeev Verma, Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Mukesh Singh, IG Police Jammu and former Minister Thakur Gulchain Singh Charak were guests of honour. The various dignitaries included gallant veteran warriors and many senior veteran officers of the Armed Forces and civil services.
The last General Officer of the J&K State Forces and former MLC, Maj General Goverdhan Singh Jamwal, recalled the great sacrifice of Brig Rajinder Singh, who as chief of the J&K forces took upon himself the task of leading a hundred men task force and challenged the 6000 strong combined force of tribals led by Pakistani Army and officers in rank and files.
A patriotic song by Miss Ananya Sharma of the Maata Vaishno Devi songs fame and Slathia brothers was the other attraction of the function.
