JAMMU, Apr 26: Great grandson of Maharaja Hari Singh, Ranvijay Singh offered floral tributes to the last Maharaja of erstwhile State of Jammu and Kashmir on his death anniversary here at Maharaja Hari Singh Park on Monday.
Unlike earlier, this time no formal function was held on account of SOPs and guidelines stipulated by the Government due to the prevailing surge in Corona Virus cases in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
Remembering the great Maharaja for his socio-political and religious reforms in the erstwhile State of J&K, Ranvijay, who is also the Trustee of J&K Dharmarth Trust, vowed to follow his footsteps and work for the upliftment of the society especially the downtrodden as they need more support than anyone else. He averred that the contribution of Maharaja Hari Singh towards J&K State and its people is colossal and he will be remembered by one and all till eternity for his exemplary governance model and raising the living standard of the people of the erstwhile State through numerous phenomenal reforms and legal support.
Portraying the exuberance and vivacity that the Maharaja Hari Singh possessed, Ranvijay Singh said that his great grandfather introduced many administrative and judicial reforms. “At the very first Darbar of 1925, he had declared ‘Justice is my religion’ and he stuck to this secular vision in letter and spirit all his life. He modernized the State governance by establishment of Praja Sabha, first democratic institution in J&K State, nowhere in other Princely states. He also promoted diverse cultural activities of the erstwhile State of J&K and patronized performing artistes”, Ranvijay maintained.
BJP spokesman Balbir Ram Rattan while paying tributes to Maharaja said he will be always remembered as a great social reformer for his contribution for eradication of stigma of un -touchability from the society.
Describing Maharaja Hari Singh as a man who was against un-touchability, Balbir said the former Dogra ruler opened the doors of temples and other religious places in the erstwhile State for the down -trodden. To accomplish this task, Maharaja also secured the services of great visionary, Pt Prem Nath Dogra who with his administrative skills completed this task. He said Maharaja was also a great secular who during his coronation declared that hence forth his religion will be justice and humanity.
