SRINAGAR, Oct 28: General Council of Employees Joint Action Committee Jammu Kashmir (EJAC), led by Fayaz Ahmad Shabnam today urged the J&K UT Administration to revoke the recent amendment in the Civil Services Rules, causing harm to the interest of Govt employees.
In a meeting of the council held today various issues related to welfare of the employees especially the amendment in the civil service rules which allows the administration to retire the Government employees after completing 22 years of service or attaining 48 years of age, were discussed threadbare and it was resolved that EJAC will not sit silent over the issues regarding the welfare and safeguarding of the rights of the employees.
It was highlighted that this amendment can be misused by certain officials to suppress and harass the employees’ fraternity and can be abused by vested officials for their personal interests. The recent clarification of the Chief Secretary to the Govt was also deliberated upon and it was observed that if there was already an order in this regard why there was need to issue an amendment in the civil service rules.
The long pending burning issue regarding the regularization of all types of temporary workers was also deliberated upon and it was unequivocally highlighted that the continuous cold shoulder approach by the Government since past 15 years has led these workers and labourers on the brink of starvation.
Shabnam added that EJAC will continue to strive for the genuine rights of employees as well as all types of temporary workers and will always stand with them till their genuine demands are not fulfilled.
He urged the Government to revoke this amendment in the civil services rules vide SRO 262 (2) dated 22/10/2020 so that there will be no apprehensions among the employees in this regard. He also urged the Government to shed off its step motherly approach towards the labourers and workers and view them through the prism of humanity so that much needed justice can be delivered to them.
