Revive the old policy

Sir,
In the present knowledge society, education has become indispensable for  human existence. Education nurtures natural inmate tendencies and streamlines these in the desired direction so that human resource can become productive for the society.
Student community, at present is passing through a transition phase of unhealthy competition. This can be attributed to a number of factors like over ambitious attitude of parents, social desireability bias or marketisation of education. Under these circumstances, students are subjected to coercive approach while deciding about their fate. Then approach occupies the central stage while interests and potentialities of students are relegated to the back seat.
It is pertinent to mention here that some decades back there was a policy under which choice for choosing science or humanities stream was available to the students right from secondary level. This policy then produced desired results which is evident from the fact, we have excellent teachers, doctors, engineers and other professionals of that time.
Students of present age are growing in an atmosphere of information and knowledge exposure and they are enough natural and conscious of their interests  from the very beginning.
In the backdrop of this scenario, there is a dire need of giving maximum freedom to the students. Parents and teahers should act as facilitators and not counsellors.
It, therefore, calls for attention from the concerned and a committee should be constituted that will look into this vital  issue of revival of old policy. In this way freedom of choice can be decentralised down to the secondary level to bring a desirable reform in the education system.
Yours etc….
