JAMMU, Oct 1: State unit of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) has urged the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh to review its Government’s decision on subsidized cylinders and hike in diesel price in the larger interest of the poor and lower middle class people of this country.
Addressing workers’ meeting at the party headquarters here today, State president of the party Tulsi Dass Langeh said majority of the people in this country fall in the category of BPL, around poverty line (22%) and in the lower middle class. With the sharp hike in the price of diesel and providing only six LPG cylinders on subsidized rates, the people of this category who are around 70 % will be affected badly with this decision.
Referring to the statement of Prime Minister that he will do what is good for the nation, the BSP leader pointed out that if PM is really serious and committed on his words then he must act according to the wishes of 70 % population of this nation. They are strongly opposing this Government decision. Therefore, the PM must keep his words and review its Govt’s decision which is anti-people. The subsidy on the LPG be continued and roll back be announced on the diesel price, Mr Langeh added.
The BSP leader further alleged with this decision a mess has been created in the country. LPG companies have started harassing consumers. Home delivery has been stopped and huge rush is being seen at the agency/ dealers’ offices. No one is there to listen the poor public which is being crushed with such forcibly imposed decisions. The agency people have turned so supreme that they are hardly bother to honour the directives from DC or the Director CAPD. He said such decision are anti-people and only support capitalists and corporate sector and not to the common man, he maintained.
