JAMMU, Apr 23: The Jammu Chamber of Commerce and Industries (JCCI) has urged upon the State Government to view its decision with regard to ban on the disposable items made of non-biodegradable material.
In a communication to Governor’s Advisor, K Sakandan here today, JCCI president Rakesh Gupta requested him to review SRO 231 dated 26-03-2019 regarding ban on disposable items made of non-biodegradable material. The Chamber also requested the Government to come out with rehabilitation plan for such units who have to ultimately stop production as per Government order at some point of time and also requested that these units be given three years time to at least offset the losses.
The copies of the said communication were also sent to Navin. K Choudhary, Principal Secretary Industries and Commerce; MK Dwivedi, Commissioner Secretary Forest Department; BM Sharma, Member Secretary J&K Pollution Control Board and Ms Anoo Malhotra, Director Industries and Commerce Jammu.
The JCCI claimed that there are 5 industrial units, engaged in the manufacture of disposable items like plates, cups, glasses, sweet containers, packaging food trays, spoon etc from polypropylene, high impact polystyrene, PVC as main raw materials procured from the reputed and original manufacturers like Reliance industries Ltd, Haldia Pertochemicals , ONGC and Indian oil ltd.
These raw materials are non bio-degradeable of course but this is also true and sure that these raw materials are all Food Grade materials with requisite quality certifications of the above said original manufacturers/suppliers. These people have made huge investments of nearly 1500 lakhs and the Govt must review its decision or give them reasonable time. Over 100 employees will also job with it, they added.
The JCCI requested the Government to come up with a rehabilitation plan for such units who have to ultimately stop production as per government order at some point of time.
