JAMMU, Dec 13: Highlighting their grievances and demands, the members of Rehbar-e-Talim Teachers Forum held a protest demonstration, here today and also tried to take out a march towards Civil Secretariat.
The protesting Rehbar-e-Talim were particularly agitated over the Government decision of conducting screening test of the serving ReTs, who have obtained degrees through Distance Mode. They were also demanding immediate release of the pending salary and implementation of the court order on transfer of ReTs.
Even as Police foiled the attempt of taking out march, the protesters raised slogans in support of their demands and announced to boycott the proposed screening test. They also threatened to further intensify their protest if the Government does not take any positive action on their demands.
While addressing the gathering of ReTs, Farooq Tantrey, president of Rehbar-e-Talim Teachers Forum, Kashmir province, alleged that the Government was trying to humiliate the Rehbar-e-Talim teachers notwithstanding their tremendous contribution in getting hundreds of schools reopened. On the name of screening test, the Government is harassing the ReTs, who pursued their education through Distance Mode from different parts of the country. ” By ordering screening test of such candidates, does the Education Department want to convey that a person from Jammu and Kashmir is not entitled to have education from other parts of the country or J&K is not part of India like other State?” he asked and announced that the ReTs would not appear in the screening test.
The Forum leader also drew attention towards the grievances of ReTs, whose salary has not been released for the last four to six months. “Families of these ReTs are facing acute problems because of no salary while the Government is maintaining a criminal silence over the issue,” he said.
The protesting ReTs also demanded that job of ReTs should be transferable, particularly the female ReTs. The Forum leaders threaten to again gherao the Civil Secretariat if their demands are not conceded by the Government.
Pertinent to mention that Jammu province unit of the ReT Teachers forum has already given a call for Secretariat gherao on December 15.
