JAMMU, Dec 15: Demanding release of pending salary and revocation of Government order on their screening test, Rehbar-e-Talim teachers held a strong protest  here today.
Holding placards and banners in their hands and shouting slogans in support of their demands, the protesting ReT teachers marched towards Civil Secretariat and after passing through Gumat Bazaar and Bus Stand, reached at Indira Chowk. As the Police did not allow them to proceed further, the protesting ReTs staged a dharna there for about an hour thus disrupting vehicular movement.
The protest was organized under the banner of All J&K ReT Teachers Forum, led by state president  Vinod Sharma, who also addressed the gathering and lambasted State Government for its alleged anti ReT policies.  He said that SSA salary, which is a chronic problem,  has not been streamlined and is pending for last more than 6 months in almost all the districts of the State while families of the affected  teachers are on the verge of starvation.
“Two years back, the Education Minister had promised to streamline the SSA salary within 6 months but ground reality is that SSA teachers are still living miserable lives and there is pin drop silence from the Government side on this crucial issue which is related to thousands of SSA teachers and Masters of the State,” he said  and added that instead of resolving this issue, the department was  issuing orders of screening test of those ReTs having distance mode qualifications from outside the State universities/boards thereby questioning the credibility of these institutions.
“The Government must first publish the list of all fake study centers/tuck shops and then go for the test of not only ReTs, but all the employees of the State who have obtained degrees from such study centers/tuck shops, otherwise the harassment of ReTs on  the screening test be stopped,” he said.
The forum leader further said that the teachers regularized  under ReT scheme be designated as Teachers and not by a created term     “ RRT”  and be brought under same transfer policy as for general line teachers by implementing  High Court order and regularization process be speeded up .
Among those who also addressed the gathering, included Najam Jafri , Sukhdev Singh Sumbria, Rajesh Jamwal , Naresh Sharma , Sham Sharma , Sajad Malik, Gulzabir Daing , Lekh Raj Parihar , Manzoor Khan , Subash Chander , Balwan Singh  and others. They
threatened to launch statewide protests and gherao the Assembly in coming days if the screening test order is not revoked and SSA salary is not released immediately.
