Srinagar, Oct 12: A retaining wall in the Khushipora HMT area on the outskirts of Srinagar city is lying damaged for the last more than 5 years while the authorities have not paid any heed to the repeated complaints from the residents.
The residents of the area said after the retaining wall was damaged, they tried to reach out to the officials of the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), however, they said, they did not get any response.
A complaint in this regard was also lodged with the J&K Grievance Cell, which then prompted the authorities to take note of the matter and issue necessary directions.
Those in the know-how of the matters said that following that complaint an estimate was made by the concerned officials at SMC, however, they said that the said estimate was too high keeping in view the amount it would have taken to repair the wall.
After that, the matter was handed over to the City Roads Division of SMC which has also prepared an estimate of nearly Rs 7 lakh; however, the same is yet to be approved by the Commissioner, SMC who continues.
When contacted, the concerned Corporator of the area, Ghulam Rasool Hajam told Excelsior that the estimate has been formulated and that the file is lying on the Commissioner’s table for final approval.
“I have time and again raised the matter and finally, I am hopeful that as soon as the Commissioner joins back, the approval will be granted and the necessary works will commence,” he said.
