JAMMU, July 9: While the results of winners of the DGPC polls for districts Udhampur, Rajouri and Reasi besides other districts have been declared, the results of the DGPC polls for district Kathua have been withheld due to dispute on the two seats of Rajbagh and Kathua city.
Despite imposition of Section 144 CrPC in district Kathua by the District Magistrate A S Jamwal, the Jammu-Pathankote National Highway remained blocked for over four hours at Rajbagh this evening. The agitating supporters of one group participating in DGPC elections from Rajbagh alleged bunglings in the counting and polling and demanded recounting. By the margin of just one vote a candidate is winning from this segment. The other group affiliated to former SGPB chairman allegedly blocked highway at Rajbagh at around 4 pm and continued protest up to 8.15 pm. Later with the intervention of DC and SSP the highway was restored. A large number of Shri Amarnath Yatris remained stranded on the highway besides other passengers.
Even on Wednesday evening, the protesters from one group of Kathua, disrupted movement of traffic and blocked Highway at Hatli Morh for about three hours.
Atul Gupta who is returning officer for the DGPC elections in Kathua said that for Kathua the groups were demanding recounting as the result remained tie. As the by-laws and agreement with both sides the Administration decided to go for draw of lots and one candidate got cleared but the second group has now raised dispute. He said that by tomorrow, the final results would be declared as for other nine seats there is no dispute. It is said that both the main groups have got 5-5 seats and at eleventh seat of Kathua the result remained tie.
In Rajouri, eleven DGPC candidates declared winners are- Amarjeet Singh (Rajouri), Surjit Singh (Bathuni), Tejpal Singh Upper Nonial, Manmohan Singh ( Chowki Handon), Bhupinder Singh ( Hanjana -Nowshera), Prahlad Singh, Harpal Singh ( Thandapani), Raghubir Singh ( Nonial), Rattan Singh ( Qila Darhal, Mohinder Singh ( Rajpura Kabila) and Tarlochan Singh from Chanji Gakhrote in Sunderbani. From Pakhri segment of Samba Manmohan Singh has remained winner.
From Udhampur district, 11 GPC members declared elected are- Gurmeet Singh from Udhampur-A, Ranjit Singh Udhampur-D, Surjit Singh from Udhampur-F, Jasvinder Singh from Rehmbal -I, Harpreet Singh from Rehmbal-2, Satvinder Singh from Rehmbal-3, Chaker Kour Singh Tara from Kud, Harvinder Singh from Udhampur -B, Jaswant Singh from Udhampur-C, Nardeep Singh from Udhampur-E and Bhopinder Singh from Badali.
Meanwhile, 11 new DGPC members declared elected from Reasi are Harbans Singh, Balwant Singh, Mohinder Singh, Pritam Singh, Mohan Singh, Harjeet Singh, Kuldeep Singh, Surjeet Singh, Rashpal Singh, Lal Singh and Amrik Singh. While 10 candidates were elected unopposed, Amrik Singh defeated Janak Singh in the close contest.
