Restrictions in parts of Srinagar

Srinagar, May 20: Restrictions were imposed in parts of Srinagar for the second consecutive day today ahead of death anniversary of Moulvi Mohammad Farooq.
The old city of Srinagar has been kept out of bounds ahead of death anniversaries of Moulvi Mohammad Farooq and Abdul Gani Lone on May 21.
Police and para-military CRPF erected barricades to thwart any protests in old city. Lanes and by lanes were sealed with concertina wires, while transport was not allowed to move through old city areas particularly through areas considered to be bastion of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq. However, pedestrian movement was allowed in these areas.
Farooq was killed in 1990, while Lone was killed in 2002 while commemorating 12th anniversary of Farooq at Eidgah in Srinagar.
The old city will continue to remain sealed tomorrow on the occasion of Mirwaiz anniversary as a precautionary measure to prevent violence.
And a minor boy was injured after security forces opened fire on a group of protesters who pelted stones at them in Arampora village of Sopore in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district last evening.
Security bones fired teargas and rubber bullets after their vehicle came under stone-pelting in Arampora area.
A nine-year-old boy, identified as Rizwan Ahmad Kaboo, son of Reyaz Ahmad Kaboo of Arampora, was injured. He was immediately taken to sub-district hospital Sopore.
He was hit by a rubber bullet  in his head and was later referred to SKIMS hospital in Soura Srinagar for specialized treatment.
And in the meantime, security forces today continued its operation in North Kashmir’s Handwara forests after killing four militants.
They killed four members of a group of at least six militants who had recently infiltrated into Kashmir and recovered arms and ammunition from them.
Sources said that reinforcements of Army and SOG have been rushed to the area and the operation is still going on against the rest of the militants of the group.
And train services in Kashmir resumed today after remaining shut yesterday due to strike called by separatists.
Meanwhile, all Kashmir University examinations scheuled to be held on Monday have been postponed, said a varsity spokesman.
Fresh dates will be announced later, he added.
