Restrictions imposed in Srinagar

Srinagar, Feb 19: The District Magistrate Srinagar this evening imposed restrictions on the assembly of people in Srinagar city in wake of three day protests and strike called by hardline Hurriyat Conference leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani.
“According to District Magistrate (DM), Srinagar, Baseer Ahmad Khan, in view of law and order situation and to avoid breach of peace and tranquillity besides damage to life and property restrictions under Section 144 CrPC in entire district Srinagar have been imposed with immediate effect i.e. today from 0600 hours evening till further orders”, a statement issued here said.
“Accordingly, Senior Superintendent of Police, Srinagar has been directed to implement the order in letter and spirit”, the statement added.
Geelani has called for a three day strike and protestes from February 20 and reiterated his demand for the return of body of Afzal Guru who was executed on February 9 in New Delhi’s Tihar Jail. Guru’s body was buried inside the Jail and was not handed over to his family for last rites.
