SRINAGAR: Curfew-like restrictions continued for the past four days in apple township of Sopore and adjoining areas in north Kashmir district of Baramulla, where a youth was killed and four others were injured when security forces opened fire to disperse demonstrators after encounter in which a militant was killed.
Meanwhile, the District Magistrate, who has been appointed to inquire into the firing incident, has announced to record statement of eyewitnesses and other.
A large number of security forces and state police personnel remained deployed in the town and adjoining areas to strictly implement the restrictions to prevent any untoward incident.
Apprehending more demonstration, authorities imposed restrictions on June 23 without any relaxation.
A youth Arshid Ahmad Shah was killed and four others were wounded when security forces opened fire to disperse the demonstrators who were protesting immediately after 20-hour-long fierce gun-battle came to end at Krankshivan in which a Lashker-e-Toiba (LeT) foreign militant Mehmood Bhai was killed and a local militant was arrested.
After the killing of Shah, hundreds of people took to streets raising “pro-freedom slogans.” Later, district authorities imposed restrictions to prevent more demonstrations and violence.
