Restore reservation in promotions: Hakla

JAMMU, Jan 20: A meeting of Gujjars and Bakerwal community was held  here, today under the chairmanship of Prominent Gujjar leader and an intellectual, Shamsher Hakla Poonchi in which grave concern was expressed depriving of the employees belonging to SC, ST, BC communities from promotion benefits.
Addressing the meeting Hakla urged the Government to restore the reservation rights to the SC,ST and BC employees in promotions.
Terming it a genuine demand of these employees Hakla said depriving them of the of reservation benefits in promotions will be an injustice with these hapless people who are socially, economically and educationally backward from other communities.
He also appealed the Chief Minister of State, Mehbooba Mufti to introduce a bill in the ongoing State Legislative Assembly Session for reservation of Assembly segments for Gujjar and Bakarwal community.
Hakla said the political reservation was compulsory for the Gujjars and Bakarwals of the State have been already given Schedule Tribe Status by the Government of India in the year 1991 after recognizing their backwardness. So far as their participation in the politics is concerned under S T  norms, there should have been reservation of Assembly segments for Gujjars and Bakarwals in the State and the Lok Sabha constituencies but it didn’t happen anywhere in the State thereby State Government has done a great injustice to the community, he added.
