KATHUA, Mar 17: Sunil Prajapati, president BJP OBC Morcha J&K UT has expressed concern over the condition of OBC Boys Hostel Basohli, in Kathua district. He said the hostel is in shambles and the facility is being denied to the OBC students from the far-flung and remote areas studying in Government Degree College, Basohli.
Prajapati who visited the Basohli today made a round of the Hostel to see its condition. He said the OBC Hostel was constructed 12 years back which was inaugurated by the then Social Welfare Minister to provide the hostel facility to the students of remote areas studying at Basohli. But the Hostel facility was never extended to the OBC boys studying in the Educational Institutions or Government Degree College Basohli, which is cause of concern. It was ascertained during the visit to the OBC Hostel that the Hostel building is in worst condition due to mismanagement. There are 12 dormitories in the Hostel with capacity to accommodate 10 boys in each dormitory. However, no OBC student has been provided the facility but it was occupied by various Government departments. It is the worst example of step motherly treatment with OBC community, but is being neglected by the Administration, and the facility meant for OBCs students is being misused.
He said the offices of J&K Board of Schools Education, Cooperative Society, Sports Department and Library is functioning in the Hostel building, which is gross misuse of the facilities as well as great discrimination with OBC students studying in the educational Institutions.
Prajapati, has appealed to the LG and the Social Welfare Department, J&K Government that the OBC Hostel at Basohli be maintained properly and affiliated to the Government Degree College, Basohli so that the hostel facility can be availed by the OBC students from the far-flung areas studying in the Government Degree College, Basohli and other Educational Institutions.
