SRINAGAR, June 15: Former Legislator Nizamuddin Bhat has exhorted upon Governor administration to respect the political institution as continuation of democratic temperament in the State.
Bhat in a statement issued here, today said an impression has started building that political component can be dispensed with and the same is happening in the name of good governance and prompt and effective delivery system.
He said Governor rule is part of democratic system. “But is always a temporary arrangement to meet constitutional exigencies. Such an arrangement doesn’t have permanence and cannot be substitute to democratic process and popular arrangement, “ he said.
Bhat said people are ultimate strength of democratic system and the State and their right to decide through acknowledged election process, cannot be denied to them.
He said Jammu and Kashmir has witnessed longer spells of Governor rule. “But never has it happened even in critical times that a concerted effort will be made to justify Governor rule as an effective mechanism to get systematic change and make democratic institutions of representation to look like a dispensable addition.”
