SRINAGAR, Apr 21: The residents of Sumerbugh village in Budgam district today protested here in Srinagar against local administration for failing to restore supply of safe drinking water, electricity and dewatering of their localities.
The protesters complained that ever since last year’s floods the lanes and bylanes are still water logged in the area making the movement of residents difficult. “We fear that water borne diseases may break out due to stagnant water as already many residents medical reports have shown that they have contracted some water borne disease”, one of the protesters told the Excelsior.
Protestors alleged that they sent many representations to the local authorities but no action was taken to end their plight. They demanded that either their locality should be provided with all the civic amenities or they should be relocated to some better place.
Later, some of the angry protestors raised slogans leading to scuffle with police. Police swung into action and cane-charged the protesters. Some of the protesters were also detained. However, they were released later.
