Callousness of PDD authorities

SRINAGAR, Feb 23: The failure of Power Development Department (PDD) to provide electric poles to the Bhagwanpora, Butwina residents in Ganderbal district of Central Kashmir has led to a lot of public resentment in the area as the electric wires lying in a precarious manner has exposed the people of the area to a grave risk.
Despite umpteen pleas to higher ups by the residents of the area led by Fallah Behbood Committee the authorities did not pay any heed to their demand to relieve over 70 households in the area of this grave problem. What can be more callousness of te Department towards the residents of the area that the electric wires are run through wooden sticks. These wires are lying in a precarious manner like death trap and people fear worst.
These naked wires can create any mishap at any time and people are worried of their as well as the safety of their cattle herd, said Mir Ghulam Rasool a trade unionist and president of Fallah Behbood Committee. Taking a dig at PDD authorities, he said by not providing poles to the area they have put the lives of the people to grave risk.
The authorities of PDD are totally callous towards the people of the area said vice president of the Committee, Manzoor Ahmed Bhat. He said despite the repeated pleas of providing 250 kv transformer in the area to solve the issue of power crisis due to frequent burning of transformers the same has not been conceded by the higher ups in the Department despite the strong recommendations made at AEE, Executive Engineer and SE level, he added.
Though it is the duty of the Department which takes a huge fee from consumers to install transformer, supply wires and construct a platform for installation of transformer, the residents of area paid money from their own pocket and hired a vehicle for transportation of transformer from Central Store, Pampore in Pulwama district to Butwani in Ganderbal district, said Pervez Ahmed a senior member of the Committee. Moreover the Department only issued 100 meter wire while the remaining wire was purchased by the residents through collections.
The members of the Committee, while taking serious exception to the callousness of PDD have sought the immediate intervention of Lt Governor, Manoj Sinha in the matter.
