Resident doctors protest following altercation with security staff

JAMMU, Jan 24: The resident doctors of Surgery Department of Government Medical College and Hospital today suspended work for a brief period in Emergency Section of the hospital in protest against manhandling of a resident doctor by a security guard.
According to the reports, a security guard deployed at the gate of Emergency Section of the hospital allegedly pushed back a resident doctor this morning while he was entering into the section. This was followed by heated exchanges between them. The situation further worsened when other security personnel also came in support of the erring security guard and manhandled the doctor.
Protesting the incident, the resident doctors of Surgery department suspended work for a brief period demanding action against the security personnel and in the meantime, their seniors performed their duties. However the situation was solved timely by the hospital administration, which removed all the accused security personnel.
When contacted, Medical Superintendent, Dr Ravinder Rattanpal, said, “We have removed all the five security personnel including a supervisor from their services, who manhandled the doctor”.
