The holy Devika, Udhampur is polluted beyond description as nobody takes note of the situation. While surveying the area from Gangera to Nansoo along the Devika river one seas tress boards displayed at several places. But to the dismay of surveyors these towards have been fixed at places where nobody could see or read them. Besides, people continue to dump garbage into this river even after district administration asked people not to do so. Its condition is worst at MH Chowk Udhampur. It has also come into the notice of the UDC delegation who surveyed the area that encroachments has taken place all along the bank from MH to Gangera. The water of Devika has polluted so much that if one takes a dip there he gets rashes on skin.
The district administration has been asked to measure original Devika land to keep away encroachers. But that has not happened so far.
It is hoped that authorities would wake up to this problem.
