Sir,
The winds in Pakistan are changing for minorities in Pakistan though slowly. The entry of non- Muslims one Hindu and one Sikh in Pakistan’s Punjab Assembly is a sort of history. Kanji Ram and Sikh representative Sardar Ramesh Singh Arora were both nominated by the PML-N to seats in the Punjab Assembly reserved for non-Muslims.
The nomination of these members will help in addressing the problems faced by non-Muslims in the province which they represent. The Punjab Government deserves to be praised for respecting the sentiments of minorities in that country.
It may not be out of context to mention here that the minorities especially Hindus and Sikhs live a miserable there. They flee from Pakistan and seek refugee in India and it bears testimony to the fact that they do not live a dignified life there.
They face harassment and humiliation both from fundamentalists and the Government machinery. The kidnapping and conversion of Hindu girls into Islam is a permanent feature of Pak society. In this atmosphere giving representation in law making body means something to them.
Yours etc….
