Religious preacher arrested for sexual assault

Srinagar, May 21: Police today arrested a preacher, Gulzar Ahmed Bhat alias Syed Gulzar Ahmad, for exploiting girls who were studying in his religious school at Budgam.
Police said that Bhat was arrested after a joint complaint was registered by the four minor girls, who were studying in his institute. They stated that they have been repeatedly sexually assaulted by Gulzar Ahmad Bhat son Ghulam Qadir Bhat of Latter Chadur, Khansahib during their stay at the institute in Nendwanpora, Budgam.
A case (FIR No: 40/2013 u/s 376 RPC) has been registered in Police Station Khan Sahib and the investigations are going in full swing, police said.
The girls recorded their statements before Chief Judicial Magistrate, Budgam. “The victims have also been medically examined. The victims hailed from different districts of the Valley. The investigation revealed that the institute is running for last several years. It provides boarding and lodging to the girl students”, police said.
Large numbers of girls are staying in the centre and as per their statement Gulzar Bhat used to sexually assault them. He is said to be illiterate and established the centre with the help of some locals few years ago. He motivated people especially the parents of poor and helpless girls to get their girls admitted in their centre.
Superintendent of Police, Budgam, Uttam Chand said that stern action will be taken against the guilty for exploiting poor and helpless girls.
