JAMMU, Apr 6: A grand religious function in connection with the 400th celebrations of Parkash Parv of Guru Teg Bahadur Ji Maharaj was organized with religious fervor and enthusiasm at Digiana Ashram here today.
The religious congregation (Gurmat Smagam) was organized by S Ajit Singh hailing from Guwahati, with the cooperation of various local Sikh organizations, under the supervision of Mahant Manjit Singh, head priest Dera Nangali Sahib, Poonch. It was a well organized affair in which proper sitting arrangement, parking facility, `Jora Ghar’ and community lunch (Langar) had been properly organized for the Sangat. Several groups of Sewadars had been allotted different duties to facilitate the participants.
Giani Harpreet Singh, Jathedar Sri Akal Takhat Sahib while addressing the large gathering threw light on the sacrifices of Guru Teg Bahadur Ji Maharaj for the cause of humanity and the fundamental rights of people of the country during that period. He stressed for equality and unity and stated that Sikh community believes in dialogue and always strives for fundamental and democratic rights in India.
Mahant Manjit Singh welcomed Jathedar Sri Akal Takhat Sahib and his team of SGPC Amritsar, besides other dignitaries and Sikh Sangat on the occasion. He said that Guru Teg Bahadur preferred supreme sacrifice instead of surrender before Mughal rulers for the cause of religion and humanity. He appealed the youth not to be lured by the drugs and said society unitedly should wage a fight against this menace. He also appealed Kashmiri Pandit community to resolve the issue of Mattan Gurudwara dispute amicably with Sikh community.
Ragi Jatha of Bhai Kuldip Singh and Bhai Sarabjit Singh Noorpuri (Hazuri Raagis of Darbar Sahib) and local Ragi Jathas recited Gurvani Path.
DG J&K Police, Dilbag Singh, Karan Singh Wazir, son of Late Tarlochan Singh Wazir, Narinder Singh Bara (Ex-OSD to SGPC president), S Sukhvarsh Singh Pannu Member Dharam Parchar Committee SGPC Amritsar and prominent Kashmiri Pandit leader, Dr Agnishekhar also addressed the gathering. They recalled the sacrifices of great Guru for the cause of humanity and the people of his country.
Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Dr Raghav Langar, ADGP, Mukesh Singh, Ex-DGP Assam PP Singh, DC Jammu Anshul Garg, SSP Chandan Kolhi, Director Command Area Jammu RS Tara, S Jasmeet Singh- Assistant Commissioner Nazool Jammu and others were also present on the occasion. Several persons were honoured on the occasion.
